Dental Checkups & Cleanings

It is recommended that children see their dentist every six months for routine cleanings and checkups. In addition to checking their smile for cavities and gum disease, they will receive a thorough cleaning so we can remove any food debris and plaque that they have missed. We will spend time during each visit talking about the best ways they can care for their smile at home so that they form healthy habits.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are used to protect particularly vulnerable areas of the teeth from decay – particularly the chewing surfaces on the back teeth. Because of their location and deep grooves, these teeth are perfect for accumulating plaque. They are also more difficult to clean. We can cover these teeth with a thin, invisible layer to prevent plaque and bacteria from harming the enamel. They can last for 10 years or more!

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Fluoride is a natural mineral that is effective in reducing the risk of cavities. For children, it is especially helpful. Regular exposure to fluoride supports the development of strong adult teeth before they even come in! During your child’s checkup, we will briefly coat their teeth with a highly concentrated fluoride solution. This will strengthen their enamel and remineralize areas of minor damage.

Athletic Mouthguards

Does your child participate in sports? To keep their smile safe while their head is in the game, we offer customized mouthguard designed just for them. They are made based on impressions we take of their smile. This way, the oral appliance will be effective at absorbing pressure placed on the mouth and minimizing the potential for chipped, broken, or knocked-out teeth!

Oral Cancer Screenings

Oral cancer affects thousands of Americans every year! While this condition is rare in children, we still always perform oral cancer screenings during routine checkups. We will examine their gums, tongue, cheeks, throat, and neck for abnormalities that could indicate oral cancer. If they find anything, they will refer your child to the right place so the next steps can be taken. When detected and treated early on, a full recovery is likely!
